The article says that the opportunities are lifting a new generation of start-ups in both Asia and the United States. In the past, they required huge investments to prove their technology worked, and their customers were tech giants that demanded low prices. Now the market is bigger, and the customers are everywhere. In the perspective of ‘History is now’, it seems similar to the silk road, which connected the Afro-Eurasia once. The connectivity increases stability and opportunities to trade more. For now, that trade route and market is the A.I. data centers. All the South Korean and Taiwanese companies that once helped build that industry in China are now harvesting a boom all their own. And the article also argues that the arrival of a nearly China-free supply chain for the world’s most advanced A.I., built on two of the most contentious locations on the map. China is conspicuously absent. It looks like the Pax Mongolica, which Mongol empire served. Overall atmosphere of peaceful sense effected the merchants, and it stimulated and fueled the trade system. They actively traded across the continents, and a lot of advanced technologies arrived and also invented by them. In the perspective of ‘History is Now’, the overall structure of past and present is quite similar. Tech giants pour hundreds of billions of dollars into data centers across the world, demand for the chips, wiring and power systems that run artificial intelligence is racing ahead of supply. For example, economically and culturally, the Song dynasty supplied the free environments, and they extenuated the regulation. It freed the merchants, and it leaded to trade expansion before. The tech giants are serving those roles in this society. Through this article, I felt the essence of ‘History is Now’. History repeats, and we should take messages from our past experiences. That’s the most precious value that history contains. As mentioned in the article, the smartphone turned China into the world’s factory floor, and United States linked the two countries and kept the peace. But now, world is changing so fast and the economical system is also fluctuating. We should be wise, and the method of being wise is knowing the past. The article mention that the opportunities are opened nowadays. To grab that opportunity and make it mine, we should understand the overall structure and system of world market. In the past, predominant countries (China, US, …) controlled the entire market and economic system (especially in the memory market), large tech companies controlled and manufactured the commodities. But now, diverse companies and countries grab the opportunity. We should control and try to utilize the supply chain wisely, which functions as the global trade routes, the silk road.
